Animal House

I must admit, I have not always been a fan of animal prints – not in fashion and certainly not in decor.  But I really like the modern application I’m seeing lately of animal prints.   Like the zebra print in this yellow bedroom.   If it was the print of the bedspread, it may not have been as appealing as it is here peeking out behind the simple bedding.

I love the way this zebra hide print plays off the modern Saarinen table and the classic Louis chairs – quite an unexpected combination, but perfection!

This high-end room gets a dose of informality with a scramble of ocelot print throw pillows.

These pink day-glo sofas and cheetah rug only work because the room is stark white and the other fabrics are low-key.

On the other hand, this room is quite subdued despite the antelope rug by Stark that grounds the space.

A classic entry, a classic staircase.  Leopard print stairs are a hint that this homeowner is not content with simply “classic” as a descriptor .  .  .

Love this image!  This large cowhide rug is not quite what you’d expect in this European-styled bath.  But it works for me.  Do animal prints work for you?

When we bought our condo the den had leopard print carpet. We left it and love it!

LOVE the cowhide! What can I say, you can take the girl out of Texas, just can’t take the Texas out of the girl.

I lean towards the cowhide… the rustic old farmhouse/ranch look is one of my favorites.

Used to sell all those at Brentwood Interiors (The Salvage Store on 3rd) years ago! Love them!

I love a good leopard or zebra print in the right dose. Even in clothing! My Grandma was a big fan of leopard, so it must’ve rubbed off. But too much can be disastrous. It’s a very fine line to walk when you play with animal prints.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment on my last blog post. I think it’s fascinating that you were a psychologist first. It definitely must help with your design skills, though. I feel like all of us need to use design psychology! That’s a big part of this profession. 🙂

Love the claw foot tub, but might feel squeamish about stepping on it with wet tootsies. Whoo, hoo, hoo.

I like the first 3 or 4 pictures, but the leapord stairs and cow hide bath is just a little much.
