Going for the Gloss

If you really want to make a statement in your home, a statement that glamorous, bold, and confident, then you must consider HIGH GLOSS.  And it seems like lately, blue is the color to use when going for the gloss.  This lacquered entry is quite a statement, no?

These walls are glossier than most automotive paint.  I feel like I could swim in this room, don’t you?

A fairly neutral room is literally capped off with an orange lacquer.  So dramatic!

This seagreen wall comes alive with heavy coats of lacquer.  OK, I realize this is an extreme paint treatment.  But there is a way to incorporate gloss to a lesser degree.

Here’s a creamy white ceiling in high gloss.  If you want to go the glossy route, it’s really important to have an excellent painter do the work.  And a perfect finish on the wall.  You see, any sheen at all highlights imperfections, including brush strokes and roller marks.

Maybe lacquer is a bit much for you.  But regular high gloss paint is sophisticated and luminescent.  See how the light reflects off this white ceiling pearlized with high gloss paint.   And the chocolate paint looks even lovelier in this glossy sheen.

Here’s a more subtle example of glossy paint.  A traditional yellow shimmers in the afternoon sunlight of this bedroom.

I almost always suggest a paint with at least a little sheen to my clients.  It’s easier to clean and it just looks more high-end to me.  In most cases, chalky matte paint makes the color seem pretty lifeless.  A satin finish gives your paint color depth and sophistication.  Are you brave enough to go for the gloss?

even being my neutral self I always go for semi-gloss or satin. I just love the texture!

by the way, on a completely different note…I took some pictures of birds at the St Louis zoo that were turquoise and red…thought of you! Interesting that the combo was in nature all along 🙂

Not that I’m defending Phil but… lip gloss is glossy! Plus the walls do look like lip gloss!

That whole idea of putting gloss paint on walls goes against everything I’ve ever been taught… I LIKE IT!!!

I don’t know why matte paint exists at all. I can just look at it and scratch/smudge it.

I like the color scheme in the first photo, but I feel like all the plants make it too much.

Also love the barrel vaulted ceiling, can I find a place with that???

I think this would look GORGEOUS in a kitchen. Ohhhh, lacquered black cabinets. Sigh!
