How to Add Enchantment to Your Home

I took a day trip last week with the fam to Rock City atop Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  If you’ve never heard of it, it’s perched above a mile high mountain where you can literally view 7 states from one vantage point.

Waterfall in Rock City

It is one of the most beautiful places imaginable – Native Americans lived and Civil War soldiers hid amongst the majestic rock formations and caves all over the area.

Wowza.

Rock City

Everything there seems enchanted, like right out of a storybook.

I want this in my backyard

Rock City was developed in the 1940’s.  Everything is made of stone or wood, since the site was rich with those natural materials.

Natural Stone Paths

When we rounded the corner here, I gasped.  My daughter said, “This is Mommy-Heaven!” (meaning she knew this was my kind of place).  All this beautiful nature plus a little vintage kitsch?  Nothing better in my book.

So this gets me to thinking about interior decoration (big surprise).  How do you incorporate this kind of natural enchantment into your decor?

I’m a bit enamored with (ok, let’s be real, i’m totally enamored) with tree stump tables.

West Elm has a side table that is too cute for words . . .

Besides tree stump tables, what else can bring a touch of enchantment into your home?

Do you think you can go too far?  Can enchanted decor go too kitschy?

Can’t help myself!

Well, going whole-hog isn’t for everyone.  But we can all make our homes more enchanted in a more subtle way.  Maybe it’s a rough-hewn dining table paired with a glam light fixture.

I’m so in love with this room!

How do you add a little enchantment to your home?

This place is gorgeous!! I would love to go visit sometime. I think having enchanted items in your home you love is what makes a home have personality! (except for creepy fairys! ) haha

Evidently, Kristie, you did not see the movie I saw as a child where the yard gnomes come to life and do horrifying things. I think I need therapy for that experience!

Your yard and home are beautiful, of course, gnomes and all. Though I do have to do some self-soothing exercises after the gnome exposure.

I’m glad you had a good trip!

This spot is breathtaking – I would love to see it for myself. I am so into stone and wood, love live edge pieces, branches, and yup – stumps! I think adding enchantment to your home is adding the element of surprise – turning the corner and finding something unexpected just waiting to greet you…

Awwww….we love taking Juliet to Rock City! 🙂 It is so beautiful–I bet you were hot, though! We went last August and roasted. 🙂

The tree stump table and chairs are so cute–I’d love those for my girls.

Vanessa, it was 104 degrees that day, but it was still so much fun. Lots of shade, and of course, caves!

What a beautiful place. Wow. AND, I’m chuckling right now because I bought an almost identical dining room table {like the one in the last photo}, had it delivered & everything–then sent it back. It was almost TOO rustic. And because it was so expensive, I didn’t want to spend so much on something “trendy”. But I love it in OTHER people’s rooms! ;D

    Warmly, Michelle

What a beautiful spot and what a beautiful photo of you! I love anything with wood and stone esp. when it is mixed with very modern steel and glass.

    Hi Kristie,
So glad to see that you took some time off for good behavior, with your family!! Much needed and appreciated, I’m sure!
I guess that the most rustic thing in my home is a 150 year old farm table, in the kitchen. Just love it! Enchanted? Not so sure about that feature in my home, but I sure love walking by a room and seeing a piece or an entire space that makes me smile. The newly recovered leopard side chair at the bottom of the stairs, is one such piece.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!,
    Barbara
