Dueling Homes – Which Will Sell First?

Two homes with the same layout in the same neighborhood.  If they are similarly priced, which one’s going to sell and which is going to flounder on the market?

The Perfect Gift for The Decorologist

I got the coolest gift today – I just had to share!   Isn’t this the coolest sign EVER???

My Own Sign!!!

Dana Tucker and her husband have a fabulous painting business called Bella Tucker Decorative Finishes.   Recently, Dana launched her own PR company, called Forest Home Media.   She dropped by my home yesterday and gave me this fun sign she had made especially for me!  It was made by a local artist who uses old license plates to make these personalized signs.

After spending  half a day in the emergency room with my daughter the day prior, what a wonderful gift to brighten a crazy week!  Oh, and my daughter’s fine – just a minor freak accident.  I won’t get into the details, but let’s just say she won’t be eating any Pringle’s in the near future.  Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Taming the Trey (Ceiling, That Is)

It’s an age old-question:  how do you properly paint out a trey/tray ceiling?

DSC 4792 Taming the Trey (Ceiling, That Is)

It’s actually spelled t-r-e-y, but I find that most people spell it t-r-a-y.  Anywho,  this is how some people think you should paint it:

One Word:  YIKES!

That kind of color chaos draws TOO much attention to the ceiling, and NOT in a good way. Looks like it’s time for The Decorologist to tame that trey!  Hopefully, you’ll see the virtue of a different tactic: [Read more...]

Speed Staging with The Decorologist

No, I didn’t say Speed Dating!  A few months ago,  I began offering a “Speed Staging” service as an option for those putting their homes on the market.  It works well for homeowners who have nice furniture and a good supply of decor items.

The Decorologist Home Staging in the Greater Nashville Area

How it works:  The Decorologist and an assistant show up (never having viewed the home), make a quick appraisal of what needs to be done, then Speed Staging begins!  Below is the living room of a home I worked in yesterday – take a minute and think about what you would do to make it market-ready before you move on to the “after” photo.

Living Room Before Speed Staging

You can see it’s a nice room, but a few important changes will make the room a WOW room.  This view is from the entry of the living room.  You have to navigate a bit to get through to the kitchen, right?   Now, for the after.  This is what we did, using only the homeowner’s furnishings and decorative accessories: [Read more...]

Nashville Decorator Reveals 3 Tricks to Making Your Bedroom Appear Larger

Many of you know I’ve been working with a Professional Organizer to get my home in shape.

We’ve concentrated a good deal of time and effort in my bedroom and closet, which I blogged about here.  I already had one large armoire in my bedroom, which I used to house a television and folded clothes. [Read more...]

Color and The Hunger Games

Wowza.  It’s been a crazy week around here.  My kids have been on Spring Break, I’ve done six Color Consultations, and I received a nifty little award from Greater Nashville House & Home.

 House & Home Magazine

Greater Nashville House & Home is the only shelter magazine in the Nashville area, and they awarded The Decorologist with a Reader’s Favorite Award for Best Staging & Redesign Company.  I knew nothing about the Reader’s Poll or award until the magazine contacted me, so that was a nice surprise!  Thanks to all my Nashville clients who voted for me!

I finally saw The Hunger Games last night, and I thought it was AMAZING.  So well-done, in every way.  I couldn’t help notice the sets and costuming, of course.  It was so interesting how they juxtaposed the colorful and outrageous citizens of The Capital with the muted, almost-colorless citizens of District 12.

Where Mad Men Really Vacationed – Hotel Valley Ho

The new season of Mad Men FINALLY aired while I vacationed with my family in Arizona a few weeks ago.   We got to stay in the delightful Hotel Valley Ho for a couple of nights, which is exactly the kind of place Don Draper would have chosen if he were on vacation!

Baby Shower for Heather Spriggs Thompson of Gathering Spriggs Magazine

This weekend, my home was the setting for a baby shower for a dear friend and fellow blogger, Heather Spriggs Thompson.  We met several years ago online (haha, I love to say that) and connected on both a personal and business level.  Her friends and family wanted to help welcome her baby boy into the world with a party that would be perfect for this artistic, creative, nostalgic, beautiful mother-to-be.

Since the nursery’s theme will be “Vintage Travel,”  the other hostesses and I put on our thinking caps to come up with decorations and props to style the event.  Heather is a decorative painter, stylist, and designer, so you can imagine how important is was to us to create just the right setting for her shower! Ode to Downton Abbey: Table Transformation

I know it’s been a long time coming, but I finally got around to painting my barley twist coffee table in Ralph Lauren’s fabulous Golden Candlesticks metallic paint.

Do you remember the “before”?

OK, I know it was lovely before, but look at it gilded!  Ahhh, I’m so in love with gilt . . .

 Coffee Table “After”

I blogged my love of gilt and of Downton Abbey here.  Gilt was all the rage during the British Edwardian Age.  And it’s all the rage in my house!  Here’s the table after a few coats of Ralph’s Golden Candlesticks (don’t you just LOVE the name of that paint?)

One last picture – let’s back up a little.  My living room with my newly gilt coffee table:

I am pleased.  Maybe this will keep me satisfied until the next season on Downton Abbey . . .
