My Own Sign!!!

Dana Tucker and her husband have a fabulous painting business called Bella Tucker Decorative Finishes.   Recently, Dana launched her own PR company, called Forest Home Media.   She dropped by my home yesterday and gave me this fun sign she had made especially for me!  It was made by a local artist who uses old license plates to make these personalized signs.

After spending  half a day in the emergency room with my daughter the day prior, what a wonderful gift to brighten a crazy week!  Oh, and my daughter’s fine – just a minor freak accident.  I won’t get into the details, but let’s just say she won’t be eating any Pringle’s in the near future.  Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

The Secret to Making Your House a Home – The Family Photo Wall

There’s nothing that makes a house a home like family photos.  But scattering them around on all available walls and table surfaces can junk up the place.  This week I spent a morning hanging a few things for one of my clients – her cute dog looked on as I worked:

We had decided to create a family photo wall for her back stairwell – it’s in the entrance where most family and friends enter the house.  She pulled out tons of photos for me to arrange and hang.  Believe me, that can be a bit overwhelming!

Bargain Art at Bed, Bath, & Beyond

My faithful readers know that I searched for a “Keep Calm and Carry On” print while in London earlier this year.   And I could only find it emblazoned on a coffee mug.   So I searched online for something and blogged about it here.   Yesterday, I went shopping with a client and visited Bed, Bath, & Beyond.  And look what I found!  These canvases are about 2 feet x 3 feet and are stretched on a wooden frame.  They come in bright pink, turquoise blue, and black for $19.99.  I’m opting for the turquoise blue! 2010 06 08 14.02.54 548x1024 Bargain Art at Bed, Bath, & Beyond

2010 06 08 14.00.25 Bargain Art at Bed, Bath, & Beyond I also found a couple of other pieces of art that I really liked.  This close-up of a succulent is really cool and contemporary, with lots of variations of green and hints of blue.  It is about 3 1/2 feet square.

Tack Boards

My latest bargain was found at my local Goodwill store.  Just stopped in to find a gray belt, which I found.  I always go through the leaning stack of framed art in the back.  I found not one, but two bamboo tack boards with white frames.  They looked so cool, I thought at first they were just framed bamboo.  Then I realized someone had made them to be tack boards.  They totally look like they are right out of a Ballard Designs catalog!  DSC 9178 300x199 Tack Boards

DSC 1484 241x300 Vintage Portraits

I have a fabulous oil portrait in my dining room.  If you’ve ever been in my home, you’ve seen her.  If you’ve looked through my blog much, you’ve probably spied her in the corner of many of my pictures.   No, she’s not my grandmother or favorite aunt.  I found her on the side of the road propped up next to someone’s garbage – she was too large to fit in the can, and way too lovely to end up there.

Anyway, it was starting to rain and I had to make a quick decision.  Do I let this beautiful painting of a dejected mother-in-law go to the city dump?  Or do [Read more...]
