IKEA Has Gone Gray – And That’s a Good Thing

I’ve been ordering furniture for a client over the last week from IKEA, so I was really excited to see that they have added another option to their black, white, or birch furniture finishes.  IKEA’s finally gone gray!  Actually, gray-brown.   I hope this is the final evidence if you need confirmation that gray-brown is the new expresso brown.

The gray-brown finish is available only on selected IKEA furniture, and they can barely keep them in stock right now.  I found gray options in the Hemnes, Isala, and Lack series.  [Read more...]

How To Personalize IKEA Furniture – A Decorologist Tutorial for Additik Stickers

I’m really excited to share a little Before and After of a pair of  LACK side tables using a fabulous new product.  Additik is a company out of France that has launched a whole line of appliques to personalize many of our favorite IKEA furniture.

Sometimes it’s good to be The Decorologist – the nice people at Additik sent me a few samples so I could show my readers how they work!  I pulled out a few of the LACK tables I use in home staging – these are black, but they also come in birch, white, and red.

IKEA Bookcases – So Many Ways to Use Them!

The Expedit Bookcase is one of IKEA’s best-selling products, and it’s no wonder.  They’re inexpensive and incredibly versatile, making them the best value I’ve found in a bookcase.  They’re backless, so the color from the wall behind can show through.

IKEA and a New Prize Give-a-Way!

Last week I got to do a little shopping at the IKEA in Cincinatti.  I bought some gifts for the ole gift closet and some staging props for my business.  And a little something for one lucky reader.   But we’ll talk about that later.  First I want to share some of my favorite things I saw at IKEA.  Like these cool bookcases.  They are decorated with freestyle writing and doodling, and they come in 3 colors ($199 each).  My daughter, Audrey was trying to talk me into getting them for her room.

Creating a Library

DSC 54422 176x300 Creating a Library I’m always encouraging clients to make their rooms more functional, more beautiful, and more “them.”  This is a great example of taking an underused room and making it highly useful and true to the homeowner’s interests.  These homeowners are true bibliophiles (that means they’re readers icon smile Creating a Library ).  But all their books and bookcases were stuffed into a guest bedroom.  It made perfect sense to bring the books into the place they actually lived – or should I say, now actually live.  This room had little function for them before, except to hold hand-me-down furniture that didn’t reflect their own tastes.
