The Secret of Freshening Up Your Bedroom

What’s the best way to freshen up your bedroom?   I like to lighten things up in the spring/summer with fresh bedding and simple pillows. Who says you have to use the same bedding all year long?

Isn’t it lovely?  It’s Cynthia Rowley’s Veronique.  I found it at Homegoods last week.

I think it works really nicely with my wall color.  It has a white background, so it looks fresher than what I have on the bed for the winter (which is a solid lavender-gray like the accent pillow here).

I tend to use strict symmetry in bedrooms because it makes them so much more peaceful and calming.

When I switch the bedding out every six months or so, it lifts my spirits until the weather changes again and I’m ready to go back to the previous bedding.  Do you use the same bedding until you tire of it, or do you change it out seasonally?

A Chandelier Dilemma

So I’m sitting in church a couple of weeks back, and a friend came over and told me she was getting rid of a chandelier and wanted to know if I might like to have it.  It seems the word has gotten around that I have a thing for chandies.  I have 16 hanging in my home, and I’m not the least bit ashamed of it.  She described it as sparkly and big with lots of crystals.   She had me at sparkly.

Anywho, I met her in the church parking lot last week to take my new baby home.  It rattled around the backend of my Pathfinder, crystals dropping and rolling everywhere.   Here she is!

French Empire, baby!  My favorite style of chandelier.  She needs a little TLC, but isn’t she a beauty?

Purples, Lavenders, and Blues

Call me narrow-minded, but I wasn’t sure what to think when I first started seeing the pairing of purple with blue.  I used to think you had to stick to one shade in a range of colors:  red, pink, or orange – but never two or three of those together!  Well, that’s all changed.  Now, the most sophisticated rooms feature all shades of one color or the pairing of two colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel.  And the more I see rooms in purples and blues together, the more I like it!

What’s great is that you can totally update your blue and white transferware collection by pairing it with purple like they did in this dining room.  You could do a similar look by simply painting your walls lavender or purple, then accenting with a blue and white plate collection.
