Do you ever re-envision your rooms? Maybe your dining room should be your office instead. Maybe your living room and dining rooms might like to trade places for a season, just to see what it’s like. I decided it was time to give my dining room the chance to take center stage in my home for a season, and moved it right into my living room.

The last time I was in the home of David and Michelle Arms was many years ago. They then lived in an old stone cottage in East Nashville. In a mere 900 square feet, they had packed more design genious and artistic imagination than you would ever see in most large showhouse designer homes. Fast forward 16 years - I recently attended an event at their current home, which happens to be about 2 minutes from my home. I must say I was excited to see how their style had evolved – and I was not disappointed! |
Today I thought I would share some Before and After pictures of a recent living room update. Actually, it’s a living room/dining room combination. My client wanted an update and wasn’t sure where to start. She had nice furniture in neutral colors, so I suggested we change the wall color, rearrange furniture, and add interest with lighting and accessories.

| Over the last couple of years, I have noticed some promising developments in wall design that doesn’t involve the expense and permanence of wallpaper, painted murals, and the easily-cheesiness of do-it-yourself stenciling. Yay for vinyl wall stickers! Michaels carries some called Hip in a Hurry. Most are geared for children’s rooms, but there’s one that has graphic shapes that might work in an informal, modern room. |  |

I found a couple of sites that carry some much more original and imaginative patterns that I wanted to share with you. One company called Single Stone Studio has got beautiful ones that would look great in a modern home. You’ve got to check some of these out! |
