Isn’t it about time to hunker down and organize your home office? What, you don’t have one?  Or you don’t use the one you have?   It is a certified fact of nature:  when you don’t like a space, you don’t use it like you should.  If you love being in the space, it can be a place of comfort, efficiency, and productivity.  Well, have I got inspiration for you!

I absolutely fell in love with this vintage-inspired office when I first saw it in Country Living last year.   The color palette is fabulous:  fucshia, lime green, and chocolate brown.   I love the vintage desk chair – who says you have to have one of those ugly rolling office chairs?  I also love the way they set the desk perpendicular to the wall.    They used a mixture of vintage tin and wooden boxes for storage.  The inspiration board is a must for creative types!

Look at this lovely color scheme – light blue with black and light green accents.  The mirrors look so glamorous grouped on the wall – you can do the same by gathering disparate mirrors and painting all the frames glossy black.

This sophisticated office features a bumblebee palette – bright yellow with lots of black.  Love the black hanging lantern.  Don’t forget to use fabulous light fixtures in your office.  Another unexpectantly awesome desk chair.  However, I must question how much actual work gets done in this room.  Look at the very small desktop!

Ann of Dwelling by Design created this dark pink and apple green floral home office.  Fresh and very Lilly Pullitzer.  A short bookcase behind the desk acts as a practical place to store books and folders, while the top is the perfect place for lighting and a surface for sorting papers.

This is the beautiful office that inspired me to do this post in the first place.  Sky blue, lots of white, and black accents.   The black and white glam photography is too die for.  Love the symmetry of the lamps on either side of the desk.  Notice the desk chair?  It could have easily been a stodgy wood-stained dining room table in a previous life.  A little white high gloss paint goes a long way to glamming things up!

This lovely little floral office nook may make you want to spend the afternoon organizing just so you can spend time here!

Nothing more feminine and sophisticated than a Paris pink and chocolate brown color scheme.  Again, I love the way the desk projects perpendicularly from the bookcase wall.  And another wonderful light fixture, girls!   Love the Phillipe Stark Ghost Chair.

A bookcase unit works great as a backdrop for a desk.  Lots of storage and display area.  And the perfect opportunity for punching in some color by painting the backs of the bookcases pink.   The desk is simply a glass top on simple metal supports.  You could even use painted sawhorses beneath the glass.  And you get the slightest peek at a comfy upholstered chair in the foreground where Ruthie Sommers likely takes a break for a cup of Joe and a good magazine.

Create an office space by plopping a desk right in front of a bookcase.  Keeping colors consistent keeps visual clutter to a minimum.

I remember first seeing this picture a few years ago.  This is genius – two bookcases hinged and set in an l-shape.  Instant office or craft station that folds up to cover the clutter when not in use.  But frankly, why would you close something this pretty?

This media cabinet was created with a bunch of modular cubes.  Simply stack and create a shape that suits your needs, screw together, add some feet.  Oh, and paint to coordinate with your decor.

An old step ladder is outfitted with old iron grates to create a lovely handmade bookcase.

Need to store some ugliness in your bookcase?  Why not put some canvas shades over the messy areas?  Cut canvas to fit, leaving enough room to hem three edges and leave a 1-inch rod pocket.  Thread rod pocket with short tension rod and insert.  Messy covered!

Use lots of pretty colored boxes.  Stack them up, use them as bookends, use their color to create a pleasing scheme.  Make sure you label them so that you can quickly find what you’ve stored in them.
