I just started a new Pinterest board this week called “And I Want to Paint It Black,” and it has nothing to do with The Rolling Stones. Adding a dash of black accents always makes a space look more sophisticated.
If your room looks too light and sweet, a few black accents make the room feel more grounded, more grown up. It also covers up a multitude of orangey wood furniture!

Paint a dated light fixture black, and there may be no need to replace it after all! Unite a photo grouping (like I did in this post) with a simple can of black spray paint. Paint a mismatched chair black, and now it seems to belong after all. Need I go on?

I ran across an image on Pinterest that caught my eye -this fabulous striped floor in Kate Spade’s flagship New York store.
Have you ever had a secret desire to paint stripes or some other cool pattern on your floors, but were too chicken to try? Guess what? That floor wasn’t painted at all – it was created with colorful vinyl tape!
Imagine what you could do with a little of this inexpensive product.

Good morning, lovely ladies (and charming gents, I’m sure)! Today I’m sharing a few fun upcycling projects from Better Homes and Gardens. This first one is a cottage-style medicine cabinet fashioned from an old dresser drawer. Vintage wallpaper in the bottom of the drawer gives it whatever personality you want it to have.
My client had dated wood dining room furniture and a limited budget. This pine set screamed, “country!!!” The brass chandelier didn’t help, either. I had to come up with a cost-effective remedy. No problem.
| I’m a big fan of historic home tours. Here in Nashville, there are about a dozen annual tours of historic neighborhoods. I hit as many as I can. My current favorite is a tour of a high-end historic neighborhood off West End Avenue. Recently, my daughter and I spent a Saturday appreciating the architecture and soaking up decorating inspiration. |  |
