This summer, I haven’t been to as many yard sales as usual. My plate (translation: calendar) has been very full lately. However, I happened upon this yard sale on my way somewhere else last Saturday morning and had to stop. So glad I did. This is what I found:
Great things happen to me at yard sales. Seemingly small but great things. There have been countless times I’ve had a thought like “I wish I had a toaster oven,” then two weeks later I stop by a yard sale on the way home from somewhere else and find a perfect toaster oven.
| Here’s my most recent example. A few weeks ago, this was the vignette on the table in the entry to my house. I love grouping vintage books by color, and pink is a hard color to come by. I love the children’s book on top, The Pink Motel. But it’s obviously a bit worn, torn, and dirty. I usually don’t display books in this condition – I like to have clean, functional pieces in my collections. But I really love the pink cover, the title, and the illustrations on the cover. |  |
| Time for sharing another one of my collections. I love having collections that are as functional as they are aesthetically-pleasing.
Vintage luggage can be found at yard sales, antique malls, and ebay. They come in beautiful vintage colors, instantly giving away the time period from which they came. |

These sturdy pieces are great as attractive storage solutions. You can store paperwork, magazines, paperback books, scrapbook supplies, photographs, etc.
These funky orangey-brown pieces blend perfectly into my husband’s office. They belonged to his grandfather and still bear his initials. |

Baby showers are joyous occasions and don’t have to be generic or boring. I always like to think about the honoree’s taste and style, as well as the baby’s room decor. The honoree of this shower had an older son who was just moving out of the vintage western-themed nursery to make way for baby sister. So I went with a vintage shower theme that heaped on some old-fashioned girliness. |
| Of course, I love all things vintage. So hosting a vintage baby shower is the most natural thing in the world for me to do. I already have so many of the props, it’s simply about styling it imaginatively and adding some flowers and food. |  |
I have a fabulous oil portrait in my dining room. If you’ve ever been in my home, you’ve seen her. If you’ve looked through my blog much, you’ve probably spied her in the corner of many of my pictures. No, she’s not my grandmother or favorite aunt. I found her on the side of the road propped up next to someone’s garbage – she was too large to fit in the can, and way too lovely to end up there.
