    Hi Kristie,

After watching your video, I went to itunes right away and bought “Birdhouse in your soul”. I had completely forgotten about that song which I used to love.

Thanks for the tutorial. Have a wonderful day.

what a sweet little video! Kristie – that must have taken you FOREVER! your hard work paid off though – very cute.

    • actually, it was pretty easy. my daughter was taking photos for the blog as i made the book stack, then i went through the pictures and thought, “this looks like a filmstrip.” what was easy was not having to write at all!

  8. Susan says:

This is great Kristie, thank you. Love the movie, the song and the book decorating tutorial all of it was really fun and a great way to start the day! ;-)

Kristie…GREAT JOB! This is a wonderful example of using what you have and your own hands
to create something useful and beautiful. First the books, second, your hands, third engaging your daughter and modeling what a resourceful, creative, and grace–full Mom does!
    Thanks for this “Wink”;).

  14. Pam says:

I liked everything from the tutorial to the nail color. Great job of using book to decorate.

  15. ld says:

why did you take off the top cover of @ book? What decorating effect does the cover on or off and put twine on the books have in a rm.

  16. sharing this email from Rachel:

“Not only did I enjoy it, but I was soooo happy to hear one of my favourite songs. Thanks for putting the effort into the little movie and sharing that idea. Happy making.”

    Hi,
I’m new at following your blog and I love it so far. I also love the book idea, but taking covers off books (even old worn out ones) kind of makes me feel bad. Do you think it would have the same effect if I left the covers on? Or did you take off the covers to make the stack of books kind of a neutral piece? Do you think the covers would take away from the overall look?

    • I know what you mean, Lorie. This is the first time I have de-faced a book. Except I did cut out some pages from a paperback version of Twilight for decor at a themed vampire dinner party, but I’m not sure that counts! If it makes you feel any better, the book covers in the video were stained and a bit moldy, so they needed to go anyway. But if the colors are consistent, you could definitely use books with covers.
