How To Personalize IKEA Furniture – A Decorologist Tutorial for Additik Stickers

I’m really excited to share a little Before and After of a pair of  LACK side tables using a fabulous new product.  Additik is a company out of France that has launched a whole line of appliques to personalize many of our favorite IKEA furniture.

Sometimes it’s good to be The Decorologist – the nice people at Additik sent me a few samples so I could show my readers how they work!  I pulled out a few of the LACK tables I use in home staging – these are black, but they also come in birch, white, and red.

The appliques from Additik arrived in the mail in these tubes. Image from The Decorologist

I was eager to see what kind of material they were made of and how durable they seemed.  The appliques were sturdier than I expected – not paper, but a more durable material that is washable with a wet sponge.  You simply peel back an edge to get started.

They were really easy to apply.  The cool thing is that they are repositionable – so you really can’t mess up if you don’t get them lined up initially.

No stress – they’re easily repositionable

My daughter peeled the back as I positioned the applique and smoothed out any bubbles.

After – LACK tables with Additix Appliques

You know how many ways you can use these inexpensive LACK tables if you read my post here.   At less that $10 a piece, you could stack them like this to create a unique bookcase tower.

Think outside the box

Additik has lots of options and designs available for lots of popular IKEA furniture pieces, such as the LACK tables,  MALM dressers, EXPEDIT bookcases, BILLY and BESTA cabinets, LAIVA desk, and more.

They’ve got cute options for kids’ rooms and playrooms, too!

One of the drawbacks to IKEA furniture is that it is so, well, impersonal.   Additik solves that problem – bigtime.

Although they are located in France, Additik delivers to the U.S.  The stickers cost $29 U.S. dollars for the LACK table size.  Yes, that is more than the table itself cost – but because the tables are so cheap, you can afford the stickers to upgrade and personalize your piece.  Come on, where else can you get such a fun side table for $40 total?

Please check out the Additik website – you’re going to love their products!  And tell them The Decorologist said “Hey!”

That is wonderful! I love the picture of the dresser. Thanks for the info. Now I will need to go on that website to see if they have anything for the doors of the Expedit unit. I just bought 5 door units and 2 drawer units and I would love to add a little personality to my wall unit. Are you able to remove the decals in the future or do they become permanent after a while?

      Karina,
They do have EXPEDIT door stickers. The stickers are pretty thick – not like paper – I did my tables a few days ago, and I can still pull them off without permanent sticking. It doesn’t appear that they would damage the surface of the furniture in any way, but the only thing is they might not adhere as well if you tried to use them again?

I have one of these tables in my garage getting ready to be sold at a yard sale in two weeks!!! You are making me second think that decision!! Great, fresh, new idea. 🙂

don’t sell them, lesley! the other thing that is cool about these is that the material is not paper – it’s some kind of plastic material, so you can clean is with a damp cloth. a few of my LACK tables have scratches on the tops, so these take care of that!

Great idea! Brings a boring table to life with personality! I am going to check out the website to see if they have rolls- need a console table covered. I would like to try this!

this is a great product. in the meantime, it makes me wondering….because I think drawer liner should be able to do similar things, at much lower cost, so does wall paper. They may not be as thick as this one, but the concept is same, even the wrapping paper Hallmark use to produce… they just need to make it thicker. I always wish that wall paper can come in smaller rolls to be used in crafting… the marketing people of wall paper just do not see this, sigh… thank you for sharing a great resource.

a heavy scrubbable wallpaper would be similar – except for the ease of application and the ability to remove it without damaging the furniture. oh, and having to cut it out perfectly! i wish they would make wallpaper in smaller rolls for crafting, too, by the way!

What a great table for a kid/teenager’s room! I’ve been to Ikea a few times, especially when I was staging homes. I have to be careful though. Once you get in the store, it can be hard to find your way out…! Seriously, am I the only one?

Yes, Barbara, – IKEA can be overwhelming! It’s hard to navigate when you get to the point of actually finding the furniture in the warehouse portion of the store.
