Last Minute Halloween Costume Picks – No Disney or Sexy Allowed

Halloween is upon us – do your kids have their costumes yet?  I typically like to put together my kids’ costumes myself, but there are years when you don’t have the time or energy to do that!  So I decided to put together a few of my favorite kids’ costumes from Amazon – since they can still get them delivered to you in time.  When choosing kids’ Halloween costumes, I have two rules:

Cutest Raccoon Ever

1) It can’t be too mainstream or trendy.

Nothing from the latest movie or a recent television show.  For boys, it’s good to go old-school like a policeman, astronaut, or cowboy.

Who wouldn’t love to see this cute little UPS guy knocking on their door on Halloween night?

But some boys prefer scary.  But keep it old-school, like this classic skeleton:

An older boy might think this headless horseman is gruesome-cool.  Maybe you could have him go without the knife.  Yeah, don’t even show him the knife.

2.  For girls, it can’t be a costume that takes perfectly innocent characters and adds “sexy” to the front.

Like sexy pirate, sexy cheerleader, sexy meter maid – you get the picture.  Whatever happened to sweet girls like Raggedy Ann and Alice in Wonderland?  I sell this kind of look as “retro” to my girls – works every time!

I hope these last minute costume picks are helpful if you are getting desperate.  Do you have any rules for kids’ Halloween costumes or do you think I am too controlling?

I agree, too much “sexy” for girls out there. Love the retro costumes. They are way cooler anyways!!

Great ideas! I’m with you on the trendy and sexy! And oh look! Not a princess in the bunch!

      Cyndia,
I’m not a fan of princesses, either. Unless they are more generic princesses – I think it’s the commercialized, Disney-version that I really don’t like.

I agree, too. My daughter wants to be a skeleton this year… just like the one you show here.

Love it – my girls were a mummy and Frankenstein a couple of years ago!
