Embroidered Peacock Lampshade

If you read my recent post, Seasonal Styling:  Inspiration from Anthropologie, then you know I hung out and snapped a bunch of photos there last week.   I found the coolest lampshade that would look really special on the floor lamp in my living room.Anthropologie's Plumage Lamp Shade

I’ve discovered that there isn’t a lot of variety in the large-size lampshades required for antique floor lamps, so it was fun to find something so unique.   The shade is cream, with various shades of brown, avocado green, and peacock blue embroidery.  Unfortunately, I would have great difficulty justifying spending $150 on a lampshade – no matter how special it is!

They also offer this with a navy blue background for a table lamp for about $110.

Maybe I’ll find one at a yard sale someday.  Hey, a girl can dream. 🙂

Oh, this is a beautiful find!

I was in a Michaels Crafts store last week. In their showroom, they had huge lampshades hanging from the rafters (as part of their creative lighting). I’m sure this was meant for in-store design, only, but I am dying to figure out how I may create one for myself.

I’m renting my condo and the owner will not allow me to change out the dining room hanging light fixture, which is suspended from an awful gold chain. Have been thinking of designing my own lampshade which would have to have no internal parts, since I’d have to bring it up from under the fixture that’s in place. The shade would have to be a drum shade (as large on the top as the bottom), and I’m thinking I could attach it covertly to the gold chain with fishing wire (or whatever you call it) that would be unseen.

    Would anyone have any ideas?

I have been lusting after this lampshade for quite some time. I, too, have difficulties forking out that much cash. Pottery Barn has an embroidered shade that is $69…closer to what I may be willing to spend. I keep watching Anthropologie in hopes this will go on sale!!

I feel extremely lucky. I found the navy blue/blackish lampshade at a local second hand shop (op shop) for $6.50!! Have to be happy with that.
