Does Paint Color Really Matter When Selling Your Home?

Many people can’t see why they may need to repaint prior to listing their home to sell.  As a Nashville Home Stager, I can tell you it’s not about just another coat of fresh paint – it’s important to choose just the right paint colors and know how paint color placement can actually make a property looks more expensive.   Only 10% of people can see beyond what they see as they walk through a property.  That means that anything taste-specific is difficult for buyers to overlook when choosing their dream home.

Make A Dining Room Sideboard Out of a Dresser

I’ve been working with a sweet client on a whole-house design.  We’ve pretty much been working from scratch – buying new furniture, window treatments, rugs, and accessories.   Up until now, we couldn’t find a great sideboard for her dining room (which is a really important design element for this open concept floorplan) at a price that works within the budget.  This is the one we would have loved to have for her space:

Strategies for Choosing Paint Colors

I was on Pinterest early yesterday morning, and I noticed a popular pin about how to choosing paint colors.  Since I am a Paint Color Consultant, I am always looking for new ideas about such things, of course.  I went to the site and read a post by a blogger describing three strategies to use for choosing paint colors in your home.

What’s the Complexion of Your Home?

The bulk of what I do is Paint Color Consultations.  Something just hit me the other day and made me kinda laugh out loud (sitting by myself like a psycho).  As many neutral paint colors that I specify for clients’ homes, I have NEVER used a neutral paint color in my own homes.

Does Dark Paint Make Your Ceiling Appear Lower?

Sometimes in Paint Color Consultations, I suggest a dark paint color for a ceiling in certain rooms.  Most people think that paint colors for ceilings should always be light, right?   Dark paint colors for ceilings used to be a hard sell, but luckily I’ve built up enough street cred that most believe me now when I say a dark painted ceiling won’t come down on your head.

Because that’s what most people are concerned with – that a dark paint color will make the ceiling appear lower.  In a relatively small room, when the walls are painted light or neutral, a dark painted ceiling actually recedes.  Think of it like a night sky that goes on and on.  Here’s a recent before-and-after, if you still don’t believe me:  [Read more...]

Mirrors Make a Big Impact in A Small Bedroom

Did you think you couldn’t have high style in a small bedroom?  Sometimes less is more, as you will see in this mini-makeover of a client’s small bedroom.  Technically, we are not finished – no art is hung and we need an accent pillow to finish this off, but I couldn’t resist sharing a sneak peak at this fun bedroom and the difference a pair of mirrors can make!

Should You Paint Your Exterior Brick?

I know it must be springtime, because I’m having lots of requests for Exterior Paint Color Consultations!  More and more people are realizing that they no longer have to live with their dated brick exteriors if they don’t want to, but it can be difficult to take the plunge and actually paint the brick.

A Blue Bedroom Earns High Marks

As a Paint Color Consultant, I do lots of blue bedrooms – it’s true.  Occasionally it’s a greige, once in a while a green, possibly a grayed lavender, but by-and-large I help my clients choose just the right blue for their bedrooms.  I guess that’s because it’s peaceful, calming, soothing – when it’s just right.

The Solution to the Dated Brick Fireplace That Even Your Husband Will Approve Of

Do you ever think about painting a brick fireplace?  One of my recent clients had a brick fireplace that dated from the early 1960s.  The brick was not at all unattractive, but the redness of it kinda put a damper on the lighter direction she was wanting to go in this space.
